Conclusion

Snort has the potential to see everyting that happening on a network. Depending on where Snort is situated it can see and react to dfferent kinds of events. Snort can't stand alone, as it a detection mechanism only able to raise the alarm; thus further actions are required by the network adminstrator using eg firewall rules when Snort gives the alarm.
