Will it be possible to use Snort as the ultimate detection and prevention machine for large amounts of data traffic?

The keywords here are 'large amounts'. Large amounts of traffic is an adminstrative headacke. A 24 port 100Mb switch can generate up to 2.4Gb traffic full duplex; thus even a 1Gb promisqous port on the switch won't be able to handle all of the traffic
